The average bank can cost you about €17,000 over your working life, according to a recent consumer survey.

The report, by the Consumers' Association in Britain, found that customers were hit with exorbitant charges for services that cost banks next to nothing.

Lifetime loyalty to one bank is one of the main reasons that customers face such high charges, according to the report.
