Sales of upper-mid-size saloons from mass-market manufacturers are in steep decline across Europe.

The Opel Omega was replaced by the Signum, the Renault Safrane by the Vel Satis, while Peugeot's 607 sells in relatively small numbers. Ford does not make a saloon car bigger than the Mondeo.

Fiat clearly has got the message and its new large model, the Croma, is another take on the “not a saloon'‘ segment.
