A profit warning from building giant CRH shocked the Irish market last August, shaking confidence in one of the last bastions of the Irish exchange.

The unwelcome update, which warned of a weaker than expected construction climate in the US, also had a ripple effect on others in the sector.

For many market commentators, the warning also served to weaken management’s credibility.
