Creditors have been left nursing losses of almost €6million following the liquidation of McElhinney Fashions, one of the country’s best known retailers.

The store had been trading in Athboy, Co Meath since 1937, but closed earlier this month after suffering a significant decline in business.

David Van Dessel, a partner with insolvency firm Kavanagh Fennell, was appointed liquidator last week at a meeting of the firm’s creditors.
