Creche owners are told when inspectors will be arriving for the majority of inspections carried out by the Health Service Executive (HSE). The HSE told this newspaper that childcare facilities were given advance notice of routine inspections. The HSE said it carried out 2,644 routine inspections in 2012.

The HSE said review or follow-up inspections were unannounced and that 478 review inspections were carried out in 2012.
