Crawford Gallery exhibition of literary faces

Irish writers have tended to eclipse Irish visual artists, but a new exhibit ion showing at the Crawford Gallery in Cork throws the spotlight on both.

The Hero with a Thousand Faces comprises more than 60 portraits of the former by the latter.

Works from the Crawford’s own collection include its most recent acquisition, Edward McGuire’s 1972 Portrait of Anthony Cronin, plus James Joyce, Samuel Beckett and WB Yeats by Louis le Brocquy, Jonathan Swift by Francis Bindon, Edmund Burke by James Barry, Frank O’Connor by Norah McGuinness, Elizabeth Bowen by Patrick Hennessy, John Montague by Barrie Cooke, and ten photographic portraits...
