Independent candidate Gerard Craughwell has won the Seanad by-election, beating Sinn Féin Councillor Catherine Seeley and Fine Gael’s John McNulty.

Craughwell, a former British Army soldier, was the only candidate present for the count in Leinster House this afternoon.

McNulty had previously asked his colleagues in the Dáil and Seanad not to vote for him due to the controversy surrounding his appointment to the board of the Irish Museum of Modern...
