One of the country’s most influential trade union leaders has defended the Taoiseach’s handling of last weekend’s pay talks and his decision not to intervene at the last minute to avert a collapse.
Peter McLoone, general secretary of the Impact Union, said that Brian Cowen ‘‘made the right call’’ in not getting involved when there were so many unresolved issues between the sides.
