Cowen outlines plans for job creation

Taoiseach Brian Cowen has warned that further changes to the social welfare system may be needed to avoid long-term unemployment and to encourage people to take up jobs.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen has warned that further changes to the social welfare system may be needed to avoid long-term unemployment and to encourage people to take up jobs.

Speaking to a Fianna Fáil meeting following criticism of the government’s social welfare bill, Cowen said his administration may ‘‘need to take further imaginative and sometimes difficult decisions to avoid people becoming stuck in long-term unemployment as jobs become available’’....
