Courts Bill doubles jurisdiction of lower courts

The Courts Bill 2013, published today, increases the monetary limit of the Circuit Court in civil proceedings to €75,000 and raises the limit in the District Court to €15,000 - up from €38,092 and €6,384 respectively.

The Courts Bill 2013, published today, increases the monetary limit of the Circuit Court in civil proceedings to €75,000 and raises the limit in the District Court to €15,000 - up from €38,092 and €6,384 respectively.

However, the Circuit Court limit in personal injury actions will be €60,000.

The bill also modifies the in camera rule which prevents the public, including the media, from reporting family law and child care proceedings.
