Since the opening of the new criminal court building outside the Phoenix Park, defendants have been moved to and from the dock through underground tunnels, avoiding the attention of the media.

This has posed problems for television stations which had become used to using pictures of defendants in criminal trials.

The solution came with the reinvention of the court sketch artist. One such artist working in the criminal courts is Mike O’Donnell, a former schoolteacher...
