Court awards wife €5m in family assets case

A wife who ‘‘fended off’’ a bank wanting a mortgage repaid on an Irish estate was given a €5 million share of family assets in the High Court.

A wife who ‘‘fended off’’ a bank wanting a mortgage repaid on an Irish estate was given a €5 million share of family assets in the High Court.

Mr Justice Henry Abbott, giving judgment in the family law case of FTM v CTM, ordered the sale of the family home, a period house on 750 acres.

The court was told that the couple married in London in October 1970.
