Counting cost of a natural disaster

The floods may be over, but the cost of the damage will take years to meet, writes Nicola Cooke

The flood waters have receded in many parts of the country, but business leaders are warning that it could take months for some businesses to recover fully.

Companies in Cork, Galway, Ennis and Athlone suffered particularly badly from the flooding over the past fortnight, with some forced to relocate temporarily to continue their operations.

The firms affected included many small to medium-sized companies and family-owned businesses, some of which had been in business for generations.
