Cost of replacing water infrastructure soars to €10 billion

The estimated cost of fixing the country’s creaking water infrastructure has soared from €6 billion to €10 billion in just three months.

The estimated cost of fixing the country’s creaking water infrastructure has soared from €6 billion to €10 billion in just three months.

It is a further indicator that consumers will have to pay higher water charges in future to fund the enormous cost of replacing water pipes and upgrading water and sewage treatment plants.

In Dublin alone, there are 685 kilometers of pipes over 80 years old. And unions representing water services staff...
