While M&A activity has increased, two key challenges are conspiring to limit growth: funding and the length of time it is taking to get deals done, writes Margaret O'Brien.

Julian Caplin, head of corporate finance with RSM Farrell Grant Sparks believes that access to funding is proving very challenging in the M&A sector.

"Every deal needs funding and because of that we have worked on developing our access to funds by strengthening our relations with potential funders in recent months," Caplin said. "This gives us an edge when securing deals for our clients."
