Tim Keane’s grandfather, a watchmaker, was the first in the family to enter the jewellery business. Then in 1948, Keane’s mother and father, Patrick and Eileen, opened Keane’s Jewellers on Patrick Street in Cork. In 1961, his uncle Gerard opened Michel Jewellers on nearby Oliver Plunkett Street.

Keane himself worked under the umbrella of the Keane’s Jewellers business for 35 years, with an emphasis on marketing, before purchasing Michel Jewellers outright...
