Cork 2012: Wholesale changes to hardware world

Diversification is the way forward for the Barry Group, one of Ireland's largest independent wholesalers to the retail sector, writes Sheila Ryan.

Barry Group, a leading cash and carry and wholesale food and alcohol distributor, is to open a new hardware division at its Mallow distribution hub on August 1.

Jim Barry, managing director of the Barry Group, realised that hardware shops were not engaged in group buying and supply chain management to the same degree as grocery retailers. He plans to apply the company's expertise in supply chain management to the hardware sector.
