Cork 2012: Recruitment is picking up

There are a number of sectors in the Cork area where there is a healthy demand for new recruits, write James Hendicott and Caroline Allen.

Stagnant consumer spending and high unemployment may have the Irish job market tottering, but Cork will overcome, its recruiters are arguing.

It is quite a turnaround. In 2009-2010, according to the government's Central Statistics Office, County Cork's unemployment figures showed the largest percentage increase of any region in the country. The region's tough times didn't end there, with hard-hitting cuts such as Pfizer's 177 job losses a week ago still trickling in.
