Coolmore, the bloodstock empire controlled by tycoon John Magnier, has warned that its Australian stud farm is being threatened by plans to develop a nearby coal mine.

Coolmore has a massive 3,600 hectare farm in Hunter Valley, New South Wales (NSW), which is frequented by some of the world's top horses.

However, the authorities have granted a licence to prospectors to develop a significant underground mine less than 500 metres away.
