Hospital consultants will finally be presented with a new draft contract by the Health Services Executive and the Department of Health at a meeting at the end of this month.

The first substantive contractual negotiations come almost exactly three years after the consultants' contracts were identified by Professor Niamh Brennan as a major barrier to the reform and improvement of the health service.
