Irish construction firms are facing serious difficulties raising finance for public-private partnerships (PPPs) from international banks, because Ireland is seen as ‘‘higher risk’’ than in the past, according to the chief executive of the Pierse building group.

Nobby O’Reilly said it took the company almost a year to raise the €68 million required for a PPP school-building programme which was launched last week.
