Conferencing: Doing the business at home

With 70,000 foreign business travellers due to visit Ireland in 2012, the conferencing and event sector is leading the country out of the recession, write Linda Daly and Caroline Allen.

The AIPCO estimates that conferencing business this year will be worth €104 million.

The conferencing market will contribute €100 million to the Irish economy this year, according to figures from the Association of Irish Professional Conference Organisers (AIPCO). AIPCO members trebled the value of the business they brought to the Irish economy in the past year, the organisation said.

It is predicting that 70,000 foreign travellers will visit Ireland to attend conferences and events organised by its members in 2012.
