The Competition Authority has begun an initial investigation into billionaire businessman Denis O'Brien's deal to buy the Beacon Hospital in Dublin.

The Competition Authority has begun an initial investigation into billionaire businessman Denis O'Brien's deal to buy the Beacon Hospital in Dublin.

According to the authority's website, the state watchdog has started a ''preliminary investigation into the proposed acquisition of Beacon Medical Group Sandyford, the hospital's holding company, by Linkbey Investment Holdings, an investment vehicle set up to take control of the hospital.
