Competition body will have key role in recovery

The role of the Competition Authority in Ireland’s economic recovery cannot be underestimated

Competition legislation cannot be enacted and then simply ‘switched on’ like an electric light - it can take time to perfect.

What would be the reaction now of those who were involved in the changes made to Irish competition law in 1991?

They would probably give it a ‘‘mixed, but overall very positive’’ scorecard. On the positive side, they would be pleased that the regime has matured somewhat and can now command respect internationally....
