Competition Authority greenlights preferred repairers

The Competition Authority says that the system of "preferred repairers" used by insurance companies is generally beneficial for consumers.

The Competition Authority has issued new guidelines about the use of "preferred repairers" for insurance claims, concluding that the system is generally beneficial for consumers.

"The Authority is of the view that these arrangements generally result in benefits for consumers and that they do not breach EU or Irish competition law," it said.

It added: "The purpose of competition law and policy is to protect competition, not firms who are having difficulty competing."
