The South African chain Red Carnation Hotels has bought the the five-star Ashford Castle hotel in Co Mayo for ���20 million. Tom Barrett of estate agents Savills handled the sale for receivers Ernst & Young.

The hotel was owned by Gerry Barrett's Edward Holdings after the developer bought the castle and 365 acres of land overlooking Lough Corrib from a group of Irish-American investors in 2008 for €50 million. Ashford...
