COMMENT: It’s the products, stupid

Apple’s admission last night that there would be no new products until the Autumn sums up why the markets are disillusioned with the tech giant, writes Adrian Weckler.

"The market loves what Apple makes. But it worries that Apple has run out of killer new ideas."

Falling profits? Smaller margins? Greater iPad sales? While all of these are of some interest, the real significance of last night’s Apple financial results came in a conference call with analysts and journalists at 10 o’clock last night.

The company’s chief executive, Tim Cook, laid it out in an answer to an analyst: Apple has some “great stuff coming this [Autumn] and through 2014”.
