One of the biggest challenges facing the new government is to give life to the well-rehearsed aspiration to have a public sector that works smarter, leaner and better.
Verifiable progress and improved effectiveness are needed urgently to generate confidence in our public sector.
However, the history of public sector change in Ireland shows that we have little experience in delivering anywhere near the degree and depth of change now required.
