Sales of phones enabled with NFC are growing and it is often touted as the bedrock for using your handset as a payment device. But real adoption of the technology is very slow, writes Adrian Weckler.
Today’s big tech news: sales of smartphones with Near Field Communications (NFC) [increased to 30 million](http://www.berginsight.com/News.aspx?m_m=6&s_m=1) in 2011.
The technology, which allows phones to wirelessly communicate with other gadgets over short distances, has been touted as the bedrock for using your handset as a payment device. Just wave your phone across a terminal and you’ll have paid your retailer.
