COMMENT: Abortion hearings to take place this week

Affable Cork TD Jerry Buttimer is to chair the Oireachtas health committee meetings on the abortion issue this week. Pat Leahy would not like to be in his shoes, he writes.

Fatal foetal conditions are not now and will not in the future be grounds for an abortion in Ireland, writes Pat Leahy.

I wouldn't like to be in Jerry Buttimer's shoes this week. The affable Cork TD is the chairman of the Oireachtas health committee and he will be chairing the meetings on the abortion issue this week.

The hearings take place in the Seanad chamber (both the Dail and the Seanad are still on their Christmas recess), beginning at 930am, tomorrow morning.
