Come west along the road

Sligo, Mayo and Roscommon have joined forces to mount a new marketing campaign promoting the historicallyunderrated north-west region, writes Siobhán Brett.

The north-west's awake, according to new Fáilte Ireland statistics which reveal that the region has the country's highest rate of returning visitors. This constitutes an impressive achievement for an area with very modest infrastructure and visitor numbers.

Now, three of its counties - Sligo, Mayo and Roscommon - have introduced a number of different marketing initiatives to capitalise on that pull.
