There is much to be said for the informality of 21st-century living, but the news that the Merrion Hotel is holding etiquette classes for young executives is surprising. Apparently, they find themselves all at sea when faced with a formal table setting, and are thus ill-equipped to entertain important clients at posh restaurants.
As a less expensive option, I’d recommend an instructive little book, Tiffany’s Table Manners for Teenagers, available online. Far from being pointless...
