A decade ago it was fashionable to pre-fix words with an e' to indicate that some adjustment had been made to make something electronic' and internet-ready. We started talking about e-business' and e-government'. Over time, the prefix vanished as the new technology was subsumed into the mainstream. The new became the normal.
