New technology means it's now easier to share information than ever before, writes Leslie Faughnan.

One of the technology advances with the greatest impact was, arguably, the deceptively simple transition of voice telephony from analogue to digital. Once everything is digital (IP telephony), it can be manipulated and stored just like any other form of data.

That means a voicemail, for example, can be automatically stored or passed on as a .wav sound file, so email and voicemail and instant messaging all converge on the desktop screen to be opened...
