Cloud computing has played a vital adoption in widespread adoption of virtualisation, writes Leslie Faughnan.

In the sense in which cloud is conceptually the ultimate in virtualisation, VMware has clearly played an important role in the world's adoption of virtualisation as mainstream ICT. VMware itself has moved on to the software-defined data centre', very close to a cloud in a box, and has embraced software defined networking' as the next generation of linking resources. That too is now a mainstream concept.
