Wexford Festival Opera has gotten off the mark unusually early by announcing details for next October. There are good reasons for this, commercial and otherwise.

Usually, it keeps its programme announcement for a decent ''big splash'' in early summer, but this year it aims to provide plenty of time for travel arrangements, particularly for overseas visitors. Its four nominations for Opera Oscars next April is sure to raise much interest on the continent.
