Classical Notes: Wexford event guarantees a sparkling opening

Na’ama Goldman will perform as Salomé in Antoine Mariotte’s opera at Wexford this month.

At 7.30pm on Wednesday, October 22, the traditional fireworks display will burst out over the quays at Wexford town, the crowd will cheer, the band will play, taxis will honk and kids will let balloons drift aimlessly off into the dark night sky. The town is once again celebrating the opening of a new opera festival – its 63rd since 1951.

Wexford always does it in style. The festival is a source of pride to the town....
