The Beethoven Project at the National Concert Hall on June 17 is a collection of three trios (two piano and one clarinet), through which Beethoven broke away from the formality of Haydn and followed his own independent thought and instinct. In fact, he used the trio form for his first published works, and they contain plenty of the dramatic outbursts and surprising harmonic twists for which he is famous.
