OPERA is reporting buoyant ticket sales for its 60th anniversary event, which takes place from October 21 to November 5.

With just a month to go, this is good news for the organisers who had to endure a nervy start to the year in organising the event because of funding uncertainty.

David McLoughlin, chief executive of the festival, said the uptake for its main operas was over 80 per cent so far.
