Naomi Harvey.

Lyric Opera's Vivian Coates, who marks 20 years of opera production with Tosca at the National Concert Hall on May 17, 18 and 20, deserves the gratitude of all opera fans. The Kilkenny-born artistic director began his career in that city in 1994, always aiming to provide quality shows at affordable prices.

Dublin soon beckoned, and with it an unbroken association with the NCH. Down the years, Coates has always stuck to his affordable principle while championing emerging Irish talent.
