Before the curtain rose on the first Irish production in living memory of Ariadne auf Naxos, Opera Ireland (OI) chief Niall Doyle thanked sponsors for their patronage and for being part of ‘‘the miracle of opera’’.
He did not mention divine inspiration as part of the miracle, though it might have been useful later on for guidance as the Ariadne plot unfolded.
