According to some Dublin retailers, last Saturday was the biggest shopping day of the year so far and Sunday wasn't far behind.

Retailers are hoping for a December splurge to erase the memory of last year's sluggish Christmas season and to justify the millions of euro that have been spent on decorating shops for the holidays.
