Chinatown comes to Smithfield

Thousands of people are expected at Smithfield in Dublin today to celebrate the start of the Chinese lunar new year. This year is the Year of the Golden Pig.

While the Year of the Pig comes around every 12 years, the Golden Pig falls only every 60 years and is thought to be especially auspicious. Chinese believe that anyone born this year will have good fortune and lead a wealthy, comfortable life.
