China lauds Bishop as cultural ambassador'

Comedian Des Bishop has been praised by a senior Chinese government official for acting as a ''cultural ambassador with his new television series.

Comedian Des Bishop has been praised by a senior Chinese government official for acting as a ''cultural ambassador with his new television series.

His ''Breaking China show on RTE records his year-long stay in China to learn to speak Mandarin and then use it to perform a stand-up comedy show for a Chinese audience.

The Chinese Ambassador to Ireland, Jianguo Xu, has praised Bishop for helping to improve Irish people's understanding of China.
