Children's agency busts its budget in first year

Savings and efficiencies are balanced out' by rising number of children and increasing demand for services.

The new child and family agency has warned that it does not have enough money in its budget this year. Tusla, which was set up just six months ago, has a budget of €609 million, but has to implement €31.5 million in cutbacks.

This includes an €11.4 million wage bill saving under the Haddington Road Agreement, of which the agency estimates it will only be able to achieve €4.5 million.
