Ireland’s cheque guarantee card scheme will cease to exist at the end of the year, as cheque usage here declines.
The Irish Paper Clearing Company, which was established in 1997 and is run by representatives from member banks, announced that the system of guaranteeing cheques by card would cease to operate on December 31, 2011.
