Cheque and cash reliance has fallen again in 2011

Cheque usage and cash withdrawals from ATMs both fell by around eight per cent in 2011 as reliance on card transactions increased.

The number of debit card transactions rose by 14 per cent and the value of ATM cash withdrawals fell from €5,000 in 2010 to €4,618 per person per annum in 2011, according to payments body IPSO.
