Chardonnay ripe for comeback

Once the top selling wine on the planet, Chardonnay has been shunned by wine drinkers in favour of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and viogneir.

Indeed, white wine has now been almost deserted as red wine comprises the bulk of wine bought and consumed in any year. The problem for Chardonnay is not a stylistic one but one of image. However, despite a fashion backlash against the wine, it remains the world’s most planted white grape, outstripping Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
