The new Building Energy Rating (BER) certificate law – which comes into effect in January – marks a significant shift for home-owners and potential buyers. However, most people are unaware of its impending introduction.

Introducing the latest addition to the property merry-go-round - energy auditing. From January 2009, all homes offered for sale or rent will be required by law to have a Building Energy Rating (BER) certificate, with fines of up to €5,000 for non-compliance.
