The economic downturn may signal tough times ahead for champagne producers, but Frédéric Heidsieck, export director for the French champagne house Roederer, is philosophical.

‘‘Sales are down this year, but the last ten years have been so fantastic that it would seem arrogant to complain,” said Heidsieck. He was in Dublin last week to compere a tasting dinner at the First Floor restaurant in Harvey Nichols in Dundrum.
